After reading your response ...

Question: After reading your response to questions about who might play the next James Bond, I have my own question. Why on Earth would TPTB replace Pierce Brosnan? He was perfect for the role.

Answer: Not being the powers that be, I can't give you a definitive answer. But my gut tells me they want to replace Pierce Brosnan because, while he was perfect for the role of James Bond, he's aging out of it and they want a younger model in place before he's past his sell-by date, the way Roger Moore was when he finally stepped down. I mean no disrespect to Brosnan, who's still a great-looking man for his age, but he's 52; while his acting has only gotten stronger and more subtle, that's a little long in the tooth for Bond-style action. I also suspect money was involved; the longer an actor is part of a franchise and the more closely he/she becomes associated with it, the better positioned the actor is to negotiate a sweeter deal. In any event, it's a shame that Brosnan's entry into the Bond series was delayed by his commitment to Remington Steele — if he'd been available earlier, he would have been good for at least two more films than he actually made.
