Knight Derails Express, Whips Pants off Sisterhood

Despite pulling the early punches on Friday,
Pineapple Express proved to be no match for Batman, as
The Dark Knight soared to its fourth week at the top of the box office.
The Seth Rogen-led
Express brought in $7.9 million Friday, but slipped on Saturday and Sunday, bringing it's weekend total to $22.4 million. (It's earned $40.4 million since its Wednesday opening.)
The Dark Knight's $26 million weekend brought the
Batman Begins sequel to a total of $441.5 million, passing
Shrek 2 to become the third highest grossing domestic flick of all time, behind
Star Wars (which it should surpass this week) and
Titanic.
This week's other opener,
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 brought in $10.8 million over the weekend and $19.7 million since Wednesday. Though those numbers best the first
Sisterhood's opening of $9.8 million, the film landed in fourth place behind Universal's
The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, which earned $16.1 million. Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly's
Step Brothers rounded out the Top 5 with 8.9 million. -
