Winslet, Button and Slumdog Top BAFTA Nods

Four days after nabbing two Golden Globe awards, Kate Winslet picked up a pair of nominations from the British Academy Film Awards — except this time she's up against herself.
The BAFTAs — the British equivalent of the Oscars — nominated Winslet twice in lead actress for her work in Revolutionary Road and The Reader. At the Globes, she won in lead for Road and supporting for The Reader. Facing off against a double dose of Winslet are Angelina Jolie (Changeling), Meryl Streep (Doubt) and Kristin Scott Thomas (I've Loved You So Long).
Not to be outdone by Winslet, Brad Pitt snatched two nods as well — one in lead for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and one in supporting for the Coen Brothers' Burn After Reading.
Button and Oscar frontrunner Slumdog Millionaire lead the field with 11 nominations each, including best film and best director for both (David Fincher for the former; Danny Boyle, the latter).
The films will vie for picture honors against Frost/Nixon, Milk and The Reader. Fincher and Boyle are shortlisted alongside Clint Eastwood (Changeling), Ron Howard (Frost/Nixon) and Stephen Daldry (The Reader).
Pitt's lead actor competition includes 18-year-old Slumdog star Dev Patel, Frank Langella (Frost/Nixon), Sean Penn (Milk) and Globe champ Mickey Rourke (The Wrestler).
In supporting actor, Pitt will go up against Robert Downey Jr. (Tropic Thunder), Brendan Gleeson (In Bruges), Philip Seymour Hoffman (Doubt) and Heath Ledger (The Dark Knight).
The Dark Knight received nine nominations, most of which are in the technical categories.
With Winslet not in the supporting actress race, that paved the way for heretofore unseen Freida Pinto (Slumdog) to join in on the award mentions. She's up against Doubt's Amy Adams, Penelope Cruz (Vicky Cristina Barcelona), Marisa Tomei (The Wrestler) and last year's champ Tilda Swinton (Burn After Reading).
