Jon Hamm Ready to Howl

Jon Hamm

Mad Men's Jon Hamm is now going to work for a mad man.

The Golden Globe winner has been cast as defense attorney Jake Ehrlich in the Allen Ginsberg biopic Howl, Variety reports. The film, starring James Franco as the controversial Beat poet, chronicles the obscenity trial that ensued after the publication of Ginsberg's 1956 epic poem "Howl." Ehrlich, whose life was the basis for the TV series Perry Mason, represented the poem's publisher, City Lights Books, who eventually won the trial.

In addition to Franco, Hamm joins Mary-Louise Parker, Jeff Daniels, David Strathairn, Treat Williams, Bob Balaban and Alessandro Nivola.

Production is currently underway in New York, and the movie is earmarked for a 2010 release.
