Tron Tracks Down Garrett Hedlund for Lead Role

Garrett Hedlund

Disney's Tron, a sequel to the 1982 cult classic of the same name, has found its leading man in relative unknown Garrett Hedlund, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The 24-year-old will play a young man who gets pulled into the world of a computer and must retrace the steps of original Tron lead character, hacker Kevin Flynn. Jeff Bridges will reprise his role as Flynn in the film. Hedlund joins House doc Olivia Wilde and Beau Garrett, who were cast last month.

After making his movie debut opposite Brad Pitt in 2004's Troy as Patroclus, Hedlund went on to costar in Four Brothers, Eragon, Georgia Rule and the film Friday Night Lights. The up-and-comer reportedly beat out Ryan Gosling and Chris Pine, from J.J. Abrams' upcoming Star Trek flick, for the role.

Tron, previously known as the alphanumeric Tr2n, will be directed by Joseph Kosinski. Original director and cowriter, Steven Lisberger, is on board to produce with Sean Bailey and Jeff Silver. Production begins in the spring.
