Box Office: Hancock Delivers Holiday Fireworks

Hancock topped the holiday weekend box office with a $66 million haul, making it Will Smith's eighth straight movie to debut at No. 1 (and his second-best opening, behind only
I Am Legend). Since opening last Tuesday, the pic has taken in $107.3 mil.

Last week's champ,
WALL-E, placed second with $33.4 million, bringing its total-to-date to $128.1 mil.
Rounding out the weekend's top five were
Wanted ($20.6 million),
Get Smart ($11.1 mil) and
Kung Fu Panda ($7.5 mil).
Overall, says the AP, Fourth of July weekend business was down four percent from a year ago, when
Transformers placed No. 1 with $70.5 million.
Meanwhile, was it nearly lost on anyone else that an Independence Day release starred a guy named Hancock? -
