Question: Years ago I remember seeing a movie called The Day of the Triffids, but apparently I'm the only one in the universe who's ever heard of it! Was it my imagination? If not, is this movie available somewhere? I only remember something about walking plants and blind people... I'd love to see it again!
Answer: It seems you just don't know the right people. The Day of the Triffids (1962) is a hugely influential sci-fi/horror film, though it's nowhere near as chilling as the John Wyndham novel on which it was based. Most recently, Danny Boyle and Alex Garland, the writer and director of the British neo-zombie movie 28 Days Later (2002) have acknowledged their debt to it. Triffids is available on DVD from Allied Artists Classics and Cheezy Flicks.
