Question: Wasn't Denzel Washington once considered for the role of James Bond? — Alan
I live in Floyds Knobs, Ind., a suburb of Louisville, Ky., and there's a wild rumor floating around that I've heard from so many sources I'm beginning to believe it might be true. The rumor is that Denzel Washington bought a home here to live in with his family while he shoots a movie about a church bus accident that occurred in Carollton, Ky., more than a decade ago. Is there any truth to this rumor?
Answer: Two Denzel Washington questions in one week — it must mean something. Unfortunately, the answer to both appears to be no. There was some chatter about the James Bond movies needing a serious overhaul and that maybe the way to go was to cast an African-American actor like Washington. But none of that talk originated anywhere close to the production; it was just pop-culture vultures' noodling. As to the Floyds Knobs question (no, there are no apostrophes), first, I can't find any reference anywhere to a film about the 1988 bus accident in Carollton that killed 27 of 67 members of a church group on a field trip. And second, Washington just wrapped a Spike Lee film called Inside Man, which started shooting in June 2005 and was done entirely in New York City, and he's in preproduction on a project called Déjà Vu, a big-budget time-travel thriller; I don't see where he could fit another project onto his plate.
