America Ferrera has been tapped to star in
An Invisible Sign of My Own, an adaptation of the quirky novel by Aimee Bender, according to the
Hollywood Reporter.
The
Ugly Betty star will play Mona Gray, a young math teacher who draws upon her own childhood struggles with her father's illness to help her students through their individual problems. At the helm of the film, which is expected to begin shooting soon, is
Marilyn Agrelo, who will be sitting in the director's chair for the first time since her 2005 indie crossover documentary
Mad Hot Ballroom.
The shooting schedule will keep Ferrera even busier than normal. Because of the fear of a potential screen actors guild strike,
Betty will go back into production for next season in June, shortly after they wrap the current shooting in early May. The
Reporter claims Ferrera is expected to shoot the film during the break. -
