Will Smith Is Egypt's Last Pharaoh

Will Smith by Lester Cohen/ WireImage.com

Will Smith is going from the Fresh Prince to the Last Pharaoh.

The actor has signed on to play Taharqa, a famed Egyptian pharaoh who battled Assyrian invaders circa 677 B.C. in the upcoming drama, Variety reports.

Smith, who's been eyeing the project for years, will also produce the flick with his Overbrook Entertainment cohorts, James Lassiter and Ken Stovitz.

Randall Wallace, who wrote Mel Gibson into Braveheart glory, will pen the epic.
