The latest James Bond flick has a new release date in its sight.
After the recent announcement that
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince would be postponed until next July, Sony moved in for the kill, bumping the release date for
Quantum of Solace back a week to Nov. 14.
According to Variety, 007 movies have traditionally opened the weekend before Thanksgiving, but producers originally chose to release
Solace on Nov. 7 to avoid competing too heavily with the gang from Hogwarts this holiday season. With Harry and co. out of the picture, however, it looks like the
Daniel Craig-fronted
Casino Royale sequel will get what it wanted all along.
"We believe Nov. 14 is a great date that allows us to play straight through Thanksgiving and right into Christmas," Sony exec Jeff Blake said. "We believe this decision will give the public a wider opportunity to see the film over the holiday."
Solace isn't the film to shift its release date following the announcement that
Half-Blood Prince would be delayed - vampire flick
Twilight quickly bit at the chance to occupy
Potter's original Nov. 21 slot.
Quantum of Solace will now compete with Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman starrer
Australia as well as
Soul Men, featuring Samuel L. Jackson and one of the final performances from the late Bernie Mac. -
