Mummy Wraps Up No. 2 Spot as Batman Eyes $400 Mil

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor courtesy Universal Pictures

The Dark Knight once again lorded over the weekend box office - this time adding $43.8 million to its haul - and is expected to hit the $400 mil mark by Tuesday, its 19th day of release. (The previous record for crossing the $400 mil milestone was 43 days, held by Shrek 2.)

That said, Dark Knight is not expected to ever sink Titanic's record tally of $600 mil. Furthermore, to match Titanic's sale of actual tickets would demand that Batman rack up $900 mil in today's box office dollars.

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor placed a solid second, opening with $42.5 mil, while Kevin Costner's Swing Vote was utterly vetoed by moviegoers, debuting in the No. 6 spot with a less-than-popular $6.3 mil. - Matt Mitovich
