Question: I've heard that Paul W.S. Anderson and Tom Cruise were going to remake Death Race 2000. Is there any truth to that? It sounds like a great idea to me.
Answer: Though I wouldn't go so far as to say it strikes me as a great idea, I can see a new version of Death Race 2000 (1975) being fun, and apparently Tom Cruise can, too, since he's developing a remake for himself with producing partner Paula Wagner. The original screenplay was by J.F. Lawton, but Paul W.S. Anderson (that's the Alien vs. Predator Paul Anderson, not the Boogie Nights one) and is apparently attached as director. That said, Deathrace 3000 doesn't have a start date and Anderson is also committed to direct Castlevania, a thriller based on the video-game series, for Dimension Films. I'll bet that happens first.
