Dark Knight Bats Away Another Record; X-Files Earns $10 Mil

Proving that there truly is no such thing as bad publicity,
The Dark Knight added $75.6 million to its Batcoffers this weekend, bringing its total-to-date to $314,245,000. That superquick crossing of the $300 million threshold bests the record set by
Pirates of the Caribbean 3, which in 2006 needed 16 days to achieve the feat.
Next in the Bat's sights is
Shrek 2's record for hitting the $400 mil mark: 43 days.
Dark Knight, by some projections, could get there in, um, 18 days.
Beyond that, of course, is the all-time box-office gross - $600,788,188 - garnered by
Titanic. "It's a tall order," Paul Dergarabedian, president of Media By Numbers, tells the AP, "but if any film has a chance to [do it], it's got to be
Dark Knight."
Oh, other movies....
X-Files: I Want to Believe placed fourth for the weekend (behind
Step Brothers and
Mamma Mia!), with a 10.2 million opening.
