Christmas Spirit: Frank Miller's Latest to Arrive Early

The Christmas Day movie slate just got a little fuller. According to the
Hollywood Reporter, Lionsgate has moved its adaptation of
The Spirit, starring
Samuel L. Jackson and
Scarlett Johansson, up to a Dec. 25 release date. Written and directed by
Frank Miller (
Sin City,
300) the flick is based on the comic-book series created by the late
Will Eisner, and was originally set to bow Jan. 16, 2009.
Producers said fans at last month's Comic-Con confirmed their feeling that an earlier release of the "irresistable piece of entertainment" would be prudent. The film (which with Miller at the helm is likely to be quite gritty) will compete against family fare (Disney's
Bedtime Stories) and the romantic comedy
Marley and Me.
