Box Office: Speed Stalls Short of Expectations

As predicted by many here in the Movie News blog,
Iron Man repeated as box office champ, adding $50.5 million to its blockbuster haul. That was plenty to leave
Speed Racer at the starting line. The Wachowskis' hyperkinetic pic opened with $20.2 million, and was almost also bested by
What Happens in Vegas (which did $20 mil in its first weekend). "[
Speed Racer] didn't perform to our expectations," a Warner Bros. rep tells the AP, and is unlikely to recoup its $120 mil budget.
Rounding out the weekend's top five were
Made of Honor ($7.6 million) and
Baby Mama ($5.8 mil).
