Angelina Jolie Replacing Tom Cruise in Action Flick?

Angelina Jolie may be ready to get back into butt-kicking mode again.

The Mr. & Mrs. Smith star and mother of six is apparently close to signing on to play the title character in Edward A. Salt, a thriller about a CIA operative accused of being a Russian spy, according to Variety.

If you're wondering about the decidedly female Jolie playing "Edward"... Tom Cruise was originally expected to star in the role. Several other male stars were also interested, according to Variety.

The studio decided to rewrite the script after Jolie took a shine to it. Oh, and there will be a title change. - Nina Hämmerling Smith
