Why 2008 Won’t Suck for Twilight Fans

Twilight courtesy Summit Entertainment

Sharpen those incisors, Twilight fans: Not only did the last book of the series break through Aug. 2, but you'll have the first film in the series to sink your teeth into Dec. 12.

Breaking Dawn, the fourth and final chapter in Stephanie Meyer's hugely successful vampire/teen-angst novels, made an astounding $1.3 million in its first 24 hours of sales. The movie Twilight has made the cover of Entertainment Weekly, and the cast recently went to Comic-Con to promote the film - and perhaps to soften fan criticism of Robert Pattinson's casting as the lead vamp, Edward. (As if anyone could live up to the godlike creature Meyer describes in the novels.) Pattinson's role as Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is just one reason some fans think the film could be the next Harry Potter franchise.

The question is, will fans of the books go to see Bella and Edward's tortured love story on screen? Are you thirsting for another vampire story? - Erin Fox
