In this film set in the mid-1700s, Granger is given custody of the young Whiteley. However, instead of caring for the boy, he sends him off to school. Whiteley soon learns he should have inherited a famed diamond and, realizing he is being hoodwinked, returns to the village of Moonfleet. Granger gets his hands on the gem, long hidden in a well, but decides to return it to Whiteley, the rightful heir.
