Gabin steals another film with his performance, this time as a despondent widower who nearly commits suicide when he learns that his late wife was in love with someone else. He is given a new lease on life when he meets a prostitute, who at one time was his maid. He takes work as a valet, passing off the prostitute as his daughter.
