The Monkey's Uncle

1965, Movie, NR, 90 mins

A dopey Disney picture that subscribes to the theory that if there's a monkey in a movie, kids will love it. Love it they may, but there's little here to be thrilled with. A sequel to THE MISADVENTURES OF MERLIN JONES, this picture again casts Kirk as eccentric young inventor Jones. Kirk at first helps a pair of flunkies pass a test after performing some study-while-sleeping tests on his pet chimp. The kids get A's but are accused of cheating, a claim Kirk proves false. The school is then offered $10 million by O'Connell if Kirk can make people fly. Kirk does invent a bicycle-powered winged machine that he gets into the air, securing the big bucks. It turns out that O'Connell is really an escaped loon, who is recaptured by a pair of fellows in white coats. Ex-Mouseketeer Annette (as she was billed, leaving the Funicello off her name) costars; actually, she just holds the chimp a lot. leave a comment
