MONEY TRAIN
starstarstarstar
A shallow, carelessly plotted caper film that wears its market-driven cynicism on its sleeve (note the title). Although Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson displayed some genuine charm in WHITE MEN CAN'T JUMP, here they come off as a pair of sleek, self-satisfied, overpaid egoists. They play adoptive brothers -- a lowbrow irony that we're supposed to take for political savvy -- who've grown up to be New York City transit cops. When they're not vying for the attentions of their new partner, stereotypically fiery Latina Jennifer Lopez, they scheme to rob a special subway train that secretly ferries bales of cash beneath the streets of Manhattan. The movie is three-quarters over by the time the great train robbery comes off, by which time you're rooting for the smirking leads to be mowed down by the uptown express. leave a comment
