TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN
starstarstarstar
Woody Allen's first directorial achievement is a frequently hilarious satire of crime movies. Allen plays the typical schlemiel, a put-upon wimp who becomes a compulsive criminal. Told in semidocumentary fashion, it's chock full of one-liners, episodic scenes, actual news footage circa 1969 (prefiguring Allen's Zelig) and a slew of movie references.
