An early satire on nuclear arms, with an added poke at the military, MR. DRAKE'S DUCK stars Fairbanks and Donlan as American newlyweds who move to England to live on a farm Fairbanks has inherited. Because of a mistaken nod of the head, Donlan inadvertently purchases five dozen ducks at an auction, one of which lays radioactive eggs. Soon the British army is called in and they quarantine the entire farm. Then the navy, and finally the air force, forces its way into the act, each branch of service laying claim to the duck. In the end, the military winds up capturing the wrong duck, but nobody knows the better. Clever idea with an added twist to the old fairy tale, "The Goose Who Laid the Golden Egg." leave a comment
