Curtis plays a youth from the slums of Chicago who betters himself through gambling, eventually becoming a partner with Bickford in a fashionable gambling casino. The story spans a period of several years, beginning with Curtis' job as a bus boy at a summer resort, where he meets two society girls, Hyer and Grant. When Curtis encounters the two later, Hyer has an affair with him, though she thinks he is much below her station in life.
