The subtitle on the third entry in the MIRROR MIRROR series amounts to wishful thinking, as it's hard to imagine anyone but the most desperate horror/sex fans wanting to watch it.
Two months after drug kingpin Julio (Richard Cansino) is killed in a police raid and his wife Cassandra (Monique Parent) disappears, Anthony (Billy Drago), an artist who was having an affair with Cassandra, moves into her expansive house. He soon finds that the spirit of Cassandra, an occult
practitioner, resides in an antique mirror, and she emerges to have sex with him. At the same time, Detective Kobeck (David Naughton) has been casing the house, in search of money Julio had hidden there.
After witnessing Anthony making love to gallery owner Carolyn (Elizabeth Baldwin), an angry Cassandra warns Anthony not to bring her back into the house. While Anthony is out, his brother Joey (Mark Ruffalo) brings Carolyn over for a tryst, and Cassandra kills her. Kobeck sneaks into the house in
search of the cash stash, and Cassandra dispatches him as well. She then confronts Anthony and attempts to stab him fatally so he can join her on the other side. Joey intervenes and is killed, and Cassandra's spirit evaporates as Anthony takes her place, trapped in the mirror's netherworld.
The only surprise to be had in MIRROR, MIRROR III is that it took two credited directors to pilot this melange of listless acting, perfunctory horror elements, lengthy but ineffective sex scenes, and amateurish action setpieces. Possessed of so much exposition that there are nearly 20 minutes of
setup before the opening credits even appear, the story never builds an ounce of tension, sexual or otherwise, and the sound recording is so bad that a good deal of the uninspired dialogue is practically inaudible. The actors, meanwhile, behave as though they're in it for the paycheck and nothing
more, and only his associate producer credit explains why Drago, who usually plays villains and is few people's idea of a hunky hero, receives so many sex scenes with the gorgeous leading ladies. (Violence, extensive nudity, sexual situations, profanity.) leave a comment
