MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET | BIG HEART, THE
starstarstarstar
Simply irresistible — even the toughest cynic doesn't stand a chance. Edmund Gwenn won an Oscar for his portrayal of a twinkly-eyed, white-bearded stranger who agrees to step into the Santa suit when the man Macy's originally hired is found too drunk to stand. He proves to be a huge hit with the Macy's execs, including Maureen O'Hara, until the old man starts insisting he really is Kris Kringle, and sends customers to Gimbels. Stealing the show is little Natalie Wood as O'Hara's daughter, a terribly sophisticated child who thinks the very idea of Santa Claus is ridiculous. • Some government agency ... | Movie News | 12/22/2005

Question: Some government agency provides proof of Santa Claus' existence in Miracle on 34th Street, but I can't for the life of me remember which one it is.

Answer: The Department of Homeland Security… just kidding. It's the U. S. Post Office that recognizes Kris Kringle (Edmund Gwenn) as "the one and only true Santa Claus" in the Christmas classic Miracle on 34th Street (1947).
