Well-made "buddy" film has Bridges and Leibman playing a truly odd couple. Bridges is a successful, though easily intimidated, insurance clerk engaged to Margolin. His pal Leibman, a con man, talks Bridges into taking off a day from work to drive him to the airport. They end up on a freewheeling adventure involving young girls and a few confidence schemes as the pair drive up the California Coast. Leibman's devil-may-care attitude perfectly complements Bridges' mild-mannered characterization. The chemistry between the two actors grows naturally; their friendship is as believable as they come. Schwartz' direction gives the ambling plot fine, steady guidance and injects humor without disrupting the dramatic flow. leave a comment
