This costly war film set during the Korean War stars Mitchum as a toughened soldier trying to figure out how to outmaneuver the North Koreans, while at the same time romancing Blyth. The picture is little more than a cliche-ridden war story, with documentary footage used to try to create a greater sense of realism. Some fairly humorous incidents enliven the tedious story, such as the scene in which Greenman, a private, tries to teach a group of Korean kids how to blow bubbles with chewing gum. Mitchum and Blyth offer performances far beyond the material they are given, with the couple singing an English translation of the popular Japanese song "Tell Me Golden Moon." leave a comment
