Fields is a minstrel singer who gives his daughter to another couple (George and Karns) to raise when his wife (Lamont) dies in childbirth. Meanwhile, Fields continues on tour with his career. When his daughter, Clark, grows up she becomes a performer. Fields returns home and joins his daughter onstage to sing a tune he wrote. The score was nominated for an Oscar, as was the song "Remember Me to Carolina" (Paul Francis Webster, Harry Revel). Other songs include "My Melancholy Baby" (George A. Norton, Ernie Burnett), "Cindy," "I Don't Care if the World Knows about It," "Shakin' Hands with the Sun," and "The Bamboo Cane" (Webster, Revel). leave a comment
