Drawing inspiration from the Book of Rambo, John Schneider dons a clerical collar and a glum expression to mow down bloodthirsty Arab terrorists in this tiresome macho revenge melodrama. David Miller (Schneider) is a Vietnam vet who renounced violence and became a minister after he was forced to blow up a preteen Viet Cong in self-defense. However, violence finds Miller anyway when his wife and daughter are killed by terrorists in a massacre at the Rome airport. Finding the State Department to be impotent in the face of his pleas for justice, Miller pockets his collar and picks up some heavy artillery to seek vengeance on his own. Under the direction of Peter Maris, MINISTRY OF VENGEANCE isn't terrible, just pointless. Even the acting isn't as bad as usual for this sort of film. Maris uses this cast well, moves the story along nicely, and shows a talent for staging poverty-row action scenes that don't look like they were filmed in somebody's backyard. leave a comment
