Robson has taken over the family business after her husband has died. She is getting on in years and would like to turn the company over to her children, but none of them is responsible enough. Instead she turns the plant over to a committee of executives just before the stock market crashes in 1929. Robson's company is forced to work at only 10% of capacity, and the mother pleads with her children to help her out, but they won't put a cent into the business. The son starts a riot among the workers. During the riot, Robson's grandson is killed. Meanwhile, the granddaughter becomes romantically involved with one of the company agitators, and the film ends with a sug...
