Trevor plays a newspaper reporter assigned to fill in for a colleague at police headquarters. When sent on a bum tip to the black section of the city, she comes across a young black woman claiming to be the mother of the white child she is raising. Further investigation by Trevor reveals the real mother to be a wealthy society woman. A court battle ensues between the real mother and the black woman who has raised the child, with the outcome that the wealthy woman gets the child and the black woman comes along as a nurse. A potentially volatile subject is here treated in a nonchalant manner, but at least the film does not fall into the trap of being overly stereotypic. Robinson, as a Harlem police officer, performs a nice tap number. leave a comment
