Midnight

1983, Movie, R, 91 mins

Nancy (Melanie Verlin) runs away from home after her father, Bert (Lawrence Tierney), tries to rape her. She is picked up by two young men as she heads for California and made a captive of a Devil-worshipping family. They plan to sacrifice her at midnight on Easter Sunday, but Bert shows up to save his daughter. Written and directed by John Russo, who wrote the script for George A. Romero's NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, and boasting special effects by Tom Savini, this film is something of a disappointment. While the script is interesting and the brief effects by Savini are good, Russo fails to translate his material to the screen effectively. The film does have a bravura performance from veteran Hollywood actor Tierney (DILLINGER, 1945), which makes up for a lot of the other weaknesses. Shot in Pittsburgh and finished by 1980, but undistributed until 1983. leave a comment
