An $18 million, star-studded disaster film, which in itself is a major disaster. The title rock is hurtling toward the Earth, and scientists from the US and USSR try to avert a collision by using missiles to demolish the asteroid. Some accompanying smaller meteors cause widespread damage, such as a tidal wave against Hong Kong and the destruction of a large part of New York City. Connery is the American scientist, Keith is his Russian counterpart, and Wood is Keith's assistant who falls in love with Connery. The missiles destroy the oncoming orb. The film's sound team received an Oscar nomination. leave a comment
