Nine Men

An intelligent, gripping war film has a group of army recruits being told the story of nine British soldiers attacked by enemy planes while on patrol in North Africa. The commander is killed, leaving the sergeant and seven men to fight off the enemy until help can arrive. A powerfully told feature; the ensemble is excellent, hooking the audience from the early moments and holding on until the bitter end. This was inspired by a similar Russian film, THE THIRTEEN (1937), which also inspired a Hollywood version, SAHARA (1943).
