After serving 10 years for bank robbery, Delon is released after intercession on his behalf by his old pal Gabin, a social worker. Delon returns to his wife and respectability, despite attempts by his cohorts to lure him back to his old life. Later, there is a prison riot, and Gabin ends up settling in the same town as Delon.
