MEAN STREETS
starstarstarstarstar
A seminal entry into the gangster genre, and the film that launched the career of Martin Scorsese, possibly the finest filmmaker of his generation. Scorsese exploded onto the scene with this remarkably assured low budgeter about four residents of Little Italy — David Proval, Richard Romanus, Robert De Niro and Harvey Keitel — who aspire to be gangsters, loan sharks or just plain hoods. A brilliantly made film: terrifically acted, sharply photographed and crisply edited. Read the complete review for Mean Streets
