Made for BBC, THE MCGUFFIN is a hopeless picture that tries to combine mystery with comedy and a tribute to Alfred Hitchcock and fails on all three counts. With a REAR WINDOW theme as a jumping-off place, Paul Hatcher (Charles Dance) is an older film critic who lives in an area where he can see what's happening in the other flats.
