This retro, family-oriented adventure, which relies on stunt work to cover plot holes, acting deficiencies and lame gags, has little to offer aside from the spectacle of pop icons Grace Jones and Hulk Hogan trading ripostes. Walter Denkinn (Robert Vaughn) is determined to persuade his former partner, retired police detective Joe McGrai (Terry "Hulk" Hogan), to help him ensnare international nogoodnik Alonso Richter (Grace Jones). Richter is rumored to be hiding out on McGrai's tropical paradise, McCinsey's Island. But McGrai has other things on his mind; he's just discovered an old turtle whose shell has been carved with a treasure map, which he photographs for his pal Billy (Todd Sheeler). According to legend, a gem thief named McCinsey bought the island that bears his name after stealing the Star of India from the Tower of London in 1876. Did McCinsey bury any of his stolen booty on this island? Unfortunately, the treasure map whets Richter's greedy appetite; she kidnaps Billy, which forces McGrai to help Denkins track her down. A low-rent updating of pirate swashbucklers, MCCINSEY'S ISLAND drags out its hide-and-seek odyssey to the point of tedium. Even those starved for family fun will shudder at the dated insult humor and derivative action plotting. Potentially vigorous sequences are undermined by the mindless chatter that precedes them. Although former professional wrestler Hulk Hogan remains impressively beefed-up, this movie is even shabbier than his made-for-TV "Thunder in Paradise" vehicles. The movie offers some effective kickboxing scenes for kiddies, scenic locales for their parents, and the spectacle of Grace Jones growling like the Poor Man's Eartha Kitt for camp-aholics. leave a comment --Robert Pardi
