Maxie

A faintly amusing, slight romantic comedy that attempts to combine whimsy and fantasy with the feeling of the 1930s madcap movies but falls as flat as a canceled sit-com much of the time. Glenn Close plays two roles and would have been wise to have foregone one or both. Jan (Close) is the wife of Nick (Mandy Patinkin), a man who specializes in old books. They have moved to a new apartment in San Francisco and are steaming paper off the walls when they find that a former resident, a jazz-age movie actress named Maxie, has left an inscription beneath the paper.
