Struggling British theater producer Watling overhears a conversation by Bentley, a psychiatrist who is convinced that by hypnotizing a pregnant woman he can create the perfect child. Watling, who is trying to raise funds for his new production, bets the doctor 5,000 pounds that his theory
has more holes than Swiss cheese. He then talks his friend Laurent, a struggling actress in her own right, to pose as the pregnant woman and guarantee that he will win. Bentley agrees she is the perfect candidate and begins treatment, but complications arise when doctor and client fall in love.
Soon Bentley and his theory are the subject of ridicule, so Laurent decides to help him...
