Genn is a doctor in the Warsaw ghetto who takes care of children orphaned by the war and manages to keep a children's hospital running inside the ghetto. When the Nazis clear out the area, he opts to remain with the children he loves and is sent to a concentration camp. Though Genn is a bit overdramatic, the children are completely natural throughout. The scenes of ghetto life are painfully realistic and nicely handled. The political implications behind this film are just as interesting as the final product.
