After rich fellow Hale becomes engaged to Kelly, Shotter's mother forces Shotter to sue Hale for breach of promise. Kelly enlists the help of Wakefield, a lawyer, to catch Shotter in a compromising position, thus ruining any chance she might have in court. However, the plot backfires, as Hale is blamed for the incident. His fiancee leaves him for the lawyer, so Hale finally decides that Shotter just may be the girl for him after all.
