Stewart is a young, independent woman living with a minister and his wife in 1842 England. When her guardians deny her a chance to see Queen Victoria's appearance at Edinburgh, Stewart defiantly packs her things and travels there alone. While at Edinburgh she falls in love with a
lieutenant and eventually meets an actress who proves to be her mother. This comes as a surprise to Stewart, for her guardians had caused her to believe her mother was long dead. The feminist ideas in the film were certainly ahead of their time but well captured in the drama. Stewart is excellent
as the feisty woman. Young actress Stewart made a sufficient impression in this and other film...
