Margin For Error

An adaptation of the popular Broadway hit, this film didn't take to the screen as well as expected. The spoof features Preminger as a German consul prior to WW II, guarded by Jewish police officers. Bennett is the consul's wife, which she remains only to keep her father in Czechoslovakia free from harm. Esmond is the assistant, forced into taking the rap for Preminger's illegal use of funds, and Freeman is an aide in the process of getting the brush-off. When Preminger turns up dead from a gunshot wound, stabbing, and poison, Berle, who plays a policeman, determines that the cause is suicide. The story is told in flashback by Berle as he's on a boat, going overseas...
