Purists may gag, but director Patricia Rozema transformed Jane Austen's problematic novel into an engaging bit of entertainment. Frances O'Connor sparkles as a poor city cousin Fanny Price, who comes of age on the sprawling country estate of her wealthy uncle and aunt (Harold Pinter, Lindsay Duncan). She falls hopelessly in love with cousin Edmond (Jonny Lee Miller), a matter that gets complicated with the arrival of sophisticated visitor to Mansfield Park (Embeth Davidtz).
