Maniac

Set in France, this confusing film features Donald Houston as a man sentenced to life imprisonment in an insane asylum after murdering the man who raped his daughter Annette (Brousse). Several years later, Geoff Farrell (Mathews), a traveling American artist, is seduced by Annette's stepmother, Eve (Gray), who convinces him to help with her husband's escape. After the escape, a body is found in the trunk of their getaway car. Farrell assumes the dead man is the male nurse from the asylum who was supposed to be in on the escape, but in a surprising twist, the body turns out to be another major player in the story.
