Satire of backstage life on Broadway loses its effect as it falls into slapstick routines. Smith and Dale are two producers who are victims of the whims of an eccentric and demanding foreign director in their attempts to stage a costly costume production. Performances are varied, with Lightner suffering from miscasting, which indicates the position she was in with Warner Brothers at the time. Script manages to generate some laughs, but otherwise falls flat. Songs include: "I Love a Parade," "Temporarily Blue" (Ted Koehler, Harold Arlen), "I'm Happy When You're Jealous" (Bert Kalmar, Harry Ruby). leave a comment
