The Next Man: Review

An uneven espionage thriller starring Connery as a UN representative from Saudia Arabia who, to ensure economic stability in the Middle East, attempts to arrange a peace settlement with the Israelis. This political move does not endear Connery to Arab terrorists, who dispatch a frisky female assassin, Sharpe, to eliminate him. Before she can get the handsome diplomat in her sights, they fall in love. The action takes place on locations all over the world (New York, Bavaria, Germany, London, and Morocco), and Chapman's photography of these scenic locations is superb, but passages of the movie seem more a pretty travelog than elements necessary to the forward movement of the narrative. Performances from the two principals are as developed as the frequently convoluted script allows them to be. leave a comment
